Love This Land

July 17, 2017 by

When I first arrived at the Danthonia community in 2002 it looked like this:

In the intervening years, restoring and caring for the land has been a major focus of our efforts here. But as we were transplants to a new country, we all had to learn how to love this land in specific and care for it in general: to plant trees, build contours, hold the water, and initiate carbon sequestration.

Today, I’m featuring a video of an award-winning project conducted on the property by two of our graduating seniors, Carlos Meier and Darryl Domer. These two young men have been involved with cattle grazing and land management since primary school, and their passion for agriculture and working with the land is obvious. As you see the lush landscapes and healthy paddocks, keep in mind the photo above. This video is a tribute to nature’s regenerative healing powers with a bit of faithful tending.
