The population of a local settlement can range anywhere from about 20 to 350. As the Bruderhof movement grows, we continue to establish new locations. As part of our discipleship, individual members and families willingly relocate among settlements if there is a need. For example, a teacher may move to a settlement with a new school, someone may move to help care for an ailing parent, or members of various ages may help balance out an existing settlement to ensure that the community is dynamic. On the other hand, some may remain in the same settlement for decades.
Regardless of the differences in language or local culture, each Bruderhof settlement is organized around the principles and customs as laid out in Foundations of Our Faith and Calling. As such, we always strive to be welcoming and helpful neighbors in the areas where we live.
