They point to the goal of our hope: the coming of the kingdom of God. Jesus spoke of this day as the wedding feast, one to which the whole world is invited. As described ­symbolically in the book of Revelation, this feast will be a vast ­gathering from every people and nation to celebrate the triumph of the love and justice of God: “Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunder peals, crying, Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come.” Matt 22:1–14 Rev 19:6–7
