The words of the angels to the shepherds in Bethlehem have been put to music perhaps more frequently than any other words in human history. The simple “Gloria in excelsis deo” – glory to God in the highest – followed by the promise of peace on earth and goodwill to all men has inspired countless composers and musicians, including the Bruderhof’s Marlys Swinger, who wrote this melody in 1964. It is sung here by the elementary school children at Woodcrest Bruderhof.
