Brisbane Community • Brisbane, QLD

Although COVID has limited our outreach efforts, we’re doing what we can safely and look forward to when we can pick up full steam where we left off.

About Us:

Brisbane community is a family- and student-based household. We meet often for meals and worship, and welcome opportunities to fellowship with others as our work, study, and volunteer activities take us out into this vibrant city.

Setting:

Our community is located in the suburb of Wilston, north of the Brisbane River. It’s a residential area, with numerous classic “Queenslander” homes, and frangipani-lined streets: a quiet, family-friendly setting, yet within easy reach of Brisbane’s central business district.

Our Neighbors:

We love making new friends and getting to know our neighbors. Whether it’s saying “g’day” to dog-walkers in the park, or chatting with someone who’s stopped by our house for a coffee, each encounter is a chance to encourage another person on their journey and exchange ideas.

Points of Interest:

We live in a city defined by the meandering Brisbane River, and we enjoy exploring our surroundings; our children particularly like to ride the ferries. But we’re also within easy reach of the great outdoors and often head to the coast, or “go bush” to explore the amazing and diverse landscapes and wildlife Queensland offers.

Residents’ Voices:

Several current residents describe life at Brisbane Community:

Darren Shirky

Darren: I’m studying dentistry at the University of Queensland. When I’m not busy with uni or work, I like to volunteer at the Wesley Mission or the local Salvation Army op shop. I and the others at our house love exploring what subtropical Brisbane has to offer, from rainforests to world-famous beaches. But more than that, we love meeting people, so if you’re up for dinner or a coffee, get in touch. We'd love to show you what we've learned about living in Christian community here in Brisbane, and hear your stories too.

Katherine Zimmerman

Katherine: When I’m not studying nursing, I enjoy getting out and about in Brisbane. It’s such an easy city to navigate – the river ferries are a great way to get around, and there are so many public parks and recreational spaces. It’s never hard to strike up a conversation and make a new friend.
