Harlem House

The Bruderhof (German for “place of brothers”) is an intentional Christian community of families and singles who share their possessions and seek to live out Jesus’ teachings in the Sermon on the Mount.

Harlem House opened in 2006 in the heart of one of New York City’s most storied neighborhoods and is home to a handful of married couples and single men and women.

Although our schedules vary, we meet every evening for communal dinner and discussion and regularly host friends and neighbors. We also gather several times a week for prayer and worship.

In accordance with the Gospel of Matthew, which reminds us that whatever we do for the poorest, we do for Christ, we provide support to patients and caregivers at local hospitals and volunteer with other churches and nonprofits in the city at soup kitchens, pantries / clothing banks, and a senior citizens’ residence.

Additionally, one of our pastors holds a weekly chapel service for homeless men and women at the Bowery Mission; and as supporters of Man Up Harlem, we take part in a weekly peace / prayer walk through a large housing project in the neighborhood.

PLEASE NOTE that we are unable to offer overnight lodging.
